Legendary Announcers

Johnny Gibson

Johnny Gibson took the helm as the full-time voice of the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Sprint Car Series in 1997. Before then, he’d been with the series every week selling race programs, but his combination of natural talent and meticulous note keeping on each event made him a natural fit. In nearly three decades since, he’s etched countless phrases in the minds of racing fans, from his booming introduction of the four-wide salute to “often imitated, never duplicated.” In reality, nobody embodies the latter more than Gibson himself—he celebrated his 2,000th consecutive WoO Sprint Car race in 2020, and earned his rightful induction into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in 2022.

Ruben Mireles

Ruben Mireles’ journey to becoming the official announcer of the World of Outlaws Late Model Series began when he was just 12 years old. Back then, the New Mexico native was calling races at his local tracks; soon enough, he’d made enough of an impression to land the role at the DIRTcar Summer Nationals starting in 2018, as well as pit reporter duties for the World of Outlaws Late Models. Mireles traded in his spot in the pits for a seat in the booth with the start of the 2023 season and has held the role ever since.
